We Help Ourselves - WHOS - (Nambour, QLD)

We Help Ourselves – WHOS – (Nambour, QLD) operates separately from the other WHOS services. Its aim is to provide a safe and secure environment where men and women who suffer from drug dependence and its related problems can concentrate on their recovery. Groupwork and individual counselling is provided by experienced drug and alcohol workers who deal with the special needs of clients. Our service is located 5 kms just outside Nambour, the center of the Sunshine Coast. We facilitate aftercare support and accommodation for clients during their transition back into the community.

The WHOS Therapeutic Community is a three to six month residential program offering groupwork, counselling support and education, stress management and skills development. Groupwork covers topics such as social and communication skills, assertiveness skills and self esteem building, living skills, self and group evaluation awareness, exiting client groups, relapse prevention, drug overdose and ex-resident groups. WHOS also provides HIV and other infectious disease education and adopts a harm minimisation approach should a drug free outcome not be chosen. Outreach services are available and facilitated by We Help Ourselves. We provide access to numerous outside activities such as self help meetings, general health services, legal and welfare services, TAFE and other educational activities and various exercise and stress management programs. Weekends are a time for reacquainting with leisure activities and relaxation.

  1. I can not speak highly enough of this place. It literally saved my life in every way. It’s not easy, it’s full on and it’s in your face and there are days where u just want to run, but it has to be in order for it to work. The staff are amazing, perfect combination of understanding and support along with an ability to pull u back into line if it’s needed. If u r looking to truly stop using and start living, Najara is the best place to go (and I’ve done 4 other rehabs)

  2. Beware what you are getting into great program for those suited to it, spent a few days there and most people have no choice because they have no-where else to go, i was driven to a N.A night in Maroochydore by a Nambour rehab resident that was discharged the next day for drug use, WTF, when i approaced staff to tell them i was checking into another program as this one wasnt quite suited to my needs and i was very negativitly told that no-one can be fixed in 4 weeks and they new absolutly nothing about where i was going. So much for ongoing support, i could tell a few more stories of my few days there some good some not so good, very unhygenic kitchen standards and all meals cleaning washing of toilets etc done by residents, they were very unclear with alot of details on check in visits etc, and we felt that on the day of check in it was all about just getting your bank details of you and push your family out the door with npt even a 5 minute goodbye. So please do your homework before entering this place as there are lots more out they that may suit your needs, i no its a hard process trying to get yourself better and theres alot of hoops and loops to jump through, but hang in there and do what you can to enter a Re-Hab that is compasionate and suits your needs.
