Teen Challenge (Kyabram, Vic)

Teen Challenge (Kyabram, Vic) offers a faith-based alternative for rehabilitation. The residential program is based upon Christian principles for living. Our aim is to provide youth, adults and families with an effective and comprehensive faith-based solution to life-controlling drug and alcohol problems in order to become productive members of society. By applying biblical principles, Teen Challenge endeavours to help people become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well and spiritually alive. This is applied through mentoring, class work and completing personal studies. It also includes work detail, learning new skills and good work ethics. The program is fully structured and supervised.

The program is open to any one who is struggling with a life-controlling problem i.e.  a problem that appears to control their life (drug dependency, alcoholism, emotional problems, gambling, etc). We primarily service Victoria although we can take referrals from other Teen Challenge centres.

The rehabilitation program involves the individual breaking with their life-controlling problem, reactivating the maturing process and developing a new lifestyle. This enables the person to become an acceptable and functional member of society, fortifying them to live free from old habits. This is achieved through Personal Studies, Group Studies, Work Duties, Recreation and Physical Exercise and a Personal Mentor with whom they meet on a regular basis.

  1. I was not very hopeful of anything good happening.

But the process was amazing. It was not easy or pleasant. I wanted to leave many times.

I struggled with faith components but my mentor really loved me and cared for me.

My mentor guided me through the process of recovery dealing with my life issues.

I highly recommend but you must be willing to be okay with Christianity.

I am now 10 years sober.

  2. I attended teen challenge in kyabram. They take your money, and preach gods word.while i was there i saw staff taking donated goods to their own home and not caring for the men they took in. So go to mount evelyn and find out for yourself

  3. My dad went to teen challenge. He used to smash the place, swear and scream & I was really scared of him as a kid. I dont think I ever had 1 day with him when he was not drunk or high. I dont know really what they did but after 12 months he was never the same & now he loves me & has been a great friend I never knew. I’m glad he sacrificed his job, our house and even not seeing us much for a year so we could have a dad not a jerk.
